The importance of being scared

We've sampled Eleanor Roosevelt's quote above as a starting point for what we do in the studio. We try to find things that scare us, and then we do them. Like proposing to make a 6,000km long wall out of sandstone and bacteria, or come up with a 180m tall skyscraper made out of loadbearing bricks.

We agree in principle with artist Anish Kapoor: »What one does in the studio is to pose a series of problems to oneself. I've got to look for some deeper meaning, for some reason for this thing to be in the world. There's enough stuff in the world.« The only problem we have with that quote is the word »problem«. We don't really believe in them. We believe in opportunities.

In the near future, this page will evolve into a proper mission statement, or (if we're still allowed to use such an outdated word) manifesto. Until then, we leave you with a third quote, this time by our favourite Argentine author, Jorge Louis Borges: »Nothing is built on stone; all is built on sand, but we must build as if the sand were stone.«
